Evolution
There was no life here at some point. The conditions however, were perfect. Despite the darkness, there was the right amount of energy. Not too much to destroy any organism that would form, but enough to stimulate interactions. There was water -- the perfect medium for allowing atoms to combine and form molecules and ultimately single-celled organisms. And, there was time.
Time allowed life to expand. The single-celled organisms replicated. Eventually, variations in DNA created variations in organisms. Soon, a plethora of single-celled organisms existed. Some would fail. Others would take root, continue to feed and continue to grow.
With enough time, additional DNA deviations would yield multi-celled organisms. Primitive at first, these creatures would also intermingle, change, and diversify. Life would expand.
At least, it would have. I was certainly curious to see what form of creature would have eventually slithered out of the ooze, but the reality is we are here to flip houses and we are on a schedule. So, we fixed the leaking roof, ripped out the moldy drywall and carpet and tossed the entire eco-system into a dumpster.
This is survival of the fittest after all.
PS. This post was inspired in part by David Christian’s Ted Talk entitled. “The History of Our World in 18 Minutes.” It’s worth the time.
