How Buying a House is Like Wedding Planning

Our daughter got engaged this week, we are in the early throes of wedding planning.

Came across this lighthearted article about how buying a house is like planning a wedding.

My role as mother of the bride is likened to home inspector. I am trying really hard to help the couple see options and pitfalls and options, but not put my foot down on anything. I want to be their wedding that they choose, not to be pressured into someone else’s vision or expectations. So far the guest list has been painful, to try to balance desires against hurt feelings.

Bruce’s role is Loan Officer. He’s gatekeeper on the total budget and whether there are any crockpots in sight. We’ve elected to give the couple a set amount and let them sort out the details. Bruce keeps saying “you can get a wedding or a down payment on a house”. The amount is 60% of what our rental portfolio makes in year, that hurts a bit.
