This week…Eviction, Security Systems, & Notice

This week in Fischer rentals news…

We experienced our first ever eviction. It was a little underwhelming. Bruce was able to go to the courthouse to observe and there wasn’t much to see. The lawyer brought the judge the paperwork, told him the tenants didn’t respond, and walked out of the court room. We still don’t have possession of the house back, waiting for the sheriff to get scheduled.

A long term tenant contacted us asking if we were still willing to help fund a security camera system, and offer we had made back in 2014. We found a $200 system, had it shipped to the tenant at our costs. We made them responsible for installation and leaving it and instructions when they move out. We initially offered it because it was two ladies moving into our low income area. They decided they wanted it due to the neighbor kids taking stuff out of their yard.

We also received official notice from a tenant that moved into one of our duplexes in the fall of 2014. So we’ll have the first vacancy we’ve dealt with in awhile at the end of the month. We’re discussing whether to continue self-managing or use a PM on this property. If Bruce doesn’t want to fill it ourselves I’m advocating trying out a different PM given recent disappointments with our current one.
