How to Map Out Your SEO strategy in 15 minutes.

You may think you’re too busy to even think about including SEO into your marketing plan, let alone create an SEO plan from scratch. The truth is that mapping out your SEO is an easy task that you can do in just 15 minutes. That’s less time than an episode of a TV show, less time than the average American commute, and less time than your average conference call. So what are you waiting for?

In order to effectively map out your SEO strategy, you need to consider the most important things that Google tells us about ranking high and gaining visibility on search engine results. Their recommendations? Use appropriate keywords, have a logical & user-friendly site structure, and provide regular and fresh and interesting content. With these three main elements, you will be able to plan out your SEO strategy in just a fifteen short minutes.

BIG PICTURE ASSESSMENT

MINUTES 1-5
  • Assess your goals that you want to accomplish in your business. These probably include higher sales, more leads, more employees, and more growth.
  • Assess ways to reach the above-listed goals: reaching more potential customers, retaining customers, and keeping up with technology.
  • Make a list of your most successful SEO tactics that you are currently employing.

ZOOMING IN

MINUTES 6-10

Connect with visitors to your website and turn them into loyal customers. Engage with them via social media and make sure they actually want to spend time on your site. Make a list of social media sites that you can be a part of. Now join those sites. Great ones to consider are Google My Business, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Take a look at your website. Is it user-friendly? Make sure the following elements are easily visible on your website: Home, Contact information, About Us.

Is your website mobile optimized? That’s your next step. For more information on how to tell if you need a total website redesign, read this article from Travis Thorpe on Inc.com.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL ON YOUR WEBSITE

MINUTES 11-15

Using Google’s specific recommendations for higher-ranking, do the following tasks next: Using Google Analytics, see what keywords are working for your site. Now choose a new keyword you want to work towards ranking for.

Now, the most important element of all: coming up with a content marketing plan. Tell your audience everything about yourself, about your business, about your industry, about your history, about your employees. Make yourself the expert and then prove it to everyone. Make a list of the next five blog posts you’re going to write. Fresh, engaging content is the most important aspect of ranking high on Google. Take the time to choose relevant, interesting topics and then find great writers (your employees, yourself, your colleagues) to give you great content that consumers and search engines will find useful and worth sharing (or ranking).

With that, in a fast fifteen minutes, you’ve successfully mapped out your SEO strategy to include several action items that are going to hugely enhance your whole online marketing campaign.
