From Bad Beginnings to Marketing Director
First off, I wanted to tell you that before I had this job I was in a bad place at the time. You see, I actually quit a job I had for over five years to another opportunity that was presented to me (a little more on that later).
I worked for the Retail Banking and Mortgage Industry since I was 18. For about 12 years of my adult life I worked from a Bank Teller to a Mortgage Underwriter to a Floor Coach (Whatever that means). I pretty much thought I would be in this industry all my life and I really wasn't too happy. Granted the money was great and I still enjoyed a work and life balance which came with great benefits and so on. But something was telling me that this wasn't what I wanted to do forever.
After a few layoffs and other companies buying us out I was always thinking about how it feels like a rollercoaster ride. Never knowing if one day I will be left unemployed and jobless. This was all happening in 2008 and that was not a good time to be unemployed. So in 2009 I went back to school.
So I decided to go back to school full time while raising two kids (with the help of my wife) and making decent money just because I needed a change in my life. I was always a tech geek and I was thinking about a Computer Science degree when one day it hit me; I would love to make money from Home. So I decided to go to school and get a Bachelors of Science in Internet Marketing.
Anyway, I graduated from school a few months ago and I was told about a new job opportunity in Underwriting Mortgages and that they would sponsor my license so I could get my DE (Direct Endorsement). If you don't know what that is lets just say its a great leap towards a higher income and an opportunity to work from home. Long story short, I quit my old job without getting an offer letter and the "new" job fell through. They were really interested in me and sent me an application and a background check form but I didn't get the offer letter. After I had quit my old job I was officially unemployed. To think I didn't want to be unemployed due to a layoff when it turned out it would be me laying myself off.
So I learned a great lesson, which was to always get a written offer letter before you quit a job. However, this turned out to be a great blessing in disguise because my next door neighbor happened to work for a Real Estate company. He is a good friend of mine and when he found out he told the owner of the company what had happened and he quickly gave me a call.
Now I am working for a Start-up company (I love saying that because it makes me feel like I am working for Facebook or Google when it first started) where we can all grow together. It's still small but it never had a dedicated Marketing "guy" before and the owner, Steve, really believes in how I will make a difference. You know what? I believe that too. I have the Mortgage background and I feel confident in my skills to Market.
Now, lets invest, think, and grow!
