Quote from Vince Lombardi

I'm not a football fan in any way, but I had the opportunity to see a quote from Vince Lombardi hanging on someone's wall today. The quote:

"If you really want something you can have it if you are willing to pay the price. And the price means that you have to work better and harder than the next guy."

I think this is completely accurate in terms of being a real estate investor. There are deals out there! But sometimes, in order to get them, you do have to work better and harder than someone else.

- Making a better offer (cash versus financed).

- Making a more creative offer (more money with longer term or higher rate than someone else.

- Getting to know the seller enough in order to find out exactly what they need to close a deal versus relying on hard numbers.

- Networking with other investors and seeking out private capital in order to fund your deals and ensuring that your investor comes first.

Also, sometimes "paying the price" means sacrificing your personal time in order to get a deal, or doing something that someone else isn't willing to do.

  1. Dead on Dawn. To accomplish things that most people can't you have to do things they can't, or more likely won't, do. Those that fail in RE are those that aren't willing to work hard and make some short term sacrifices for long term success.
