35 Hornet Nests!

I am finishing up rehabbing a new rental property and one task I had to do that I don't enjoy is getting rid of hornets nests.

Underneath the awnings covering four of the windows, there were several hornets nests.  I saw them when I and another person were cleaning the windows.  What I didn't realize at first just how many of them there were!

In the front of the house, under one awning there were 6, and another window had 16. Then on the side of the house, there were 6 under one awning and 7 under another.  That gets me to a total of 35 nests overall -- ack!

Well, I took some heavy-duty hornet spray, and doused those suckers with it.  I really coated them liberally.  I did this at 7 pm last  night as I've read that as it starts to approach night-time, they get more docile.

On the last window, the one with 16 nests, one angry hornet didn't like the fact that he and his whole family were getting evicted and started coming after me.  I flailed around and ran away.  (It was truly hilarious to anyone watching me, I'm sure.  But I didn't get stung.)

I came back a little later after letting the spray soak in and scraped them off with a paint scraper screwed onto a broom handle.

NO MORE HORNETS!  (They weren't paying rent anyway.)

  1. I would hate to go against you Dawn A. You're a vicious woman.

  2. Nasty. Hate using chemicals but hate stinging insects even more. Glad you got away.
