Tenant applicants who don't care

This is a story of a couple who came to a recent showing for a rental unit.

The girlfriend was looking around and she asked him if he wanted to see the garage and backyard. He replied, "No, I don't care."

Then a little bit later he came up to me and said that he could have the security deposit and first month's rent in cash later to me today.  I said no, you have to both fill out an application and go through the screening process.

He asked what I screened for.  I told him its the normal things -- criminal history, etc.  He repeated "criminal history" then told me I just didn't like him and he wasn't going to apply anyway then left.

Note -- if someone really doesn't care about what a place looks like, and wants to offer you cash on the spot, and is upset that you want to screen for criminal history, more than likely they WON'T be a good tenant.

  1. Congrats Dawn. It's wonderful NOT to be a desperate landlord. You saved yourself some peaceful night's rest.

  2. Good lesson Dawn.If some guy is desperate to rent a house, probably something fishy is going on.
