Taking Control of Your Real Estate Career
They say if you spend 10,000 hours doing something you’ll become a master at it. If you really want to become a master in your field you have to really put in that effort. Here we’re going to talk about how with practice, focus and a lot of hard work you can finally take care of your real estate career. From selling luxury real estate to even going into the commercial field – the demands will always be the same. You can’t become a master of real estate unless you actually start SELLING homes. It’s not something you can learn out of a book – you have to move forward.
Practice Makes Perfect
The first thing you have to learn is that practice makes perfect. You are going to blow it a few times, we all do. Sometimes you might mishandle a client, but this doesn’t mean you’ve failed as a realtor. You just have to dust yourself off and try again. Each lesson you learn is just another tidbit you can apply to the next job. The better you get the more clients you’ll keep and the more money you earn. You’re always moving towards mastery of your field.
Focus on a Specific Field
Focusing on a specific field is going to be your key to success. Whether it’s luxury real estate, commercial real estate, agricultural or some other area you need to specialize. The more you specialize the better you’ll be able to master your field. You don’t want to end up as one of those Jack of All Trades sorts that can’t do their job well. Taking control of your real estate career all starts with choosing your specialty – go with what you know, go with what you can sell. Don’t try to force yourself to be something you’re not and it’s okay to take some time when you’re learning to find the right field.
Becoming a Master
10,000 hours right? Becoming a master of anything is all about practical application, specialising and learning. You’re going to make mistakes, you’re going to have to feel your way through some situations. Providing a fantastic experience that keeps clients coming back for more and referring family and friends will make you a success. Don’t try to rush through it, it’ll take between 5 and 15 years to master your trade. Things change constantly, but when you know it you know it!
No Room for Generalists in Real Estate
Generalists have little purpose in real estate. You have to know the ins and outs of what your clients need. There’s no place for half in half out at the top level of the game after all! You need to be able to give them the star treatment and exactly what they want. You have to know an area like the back of your hand, you have to provide value. Take your time focusing on what field you want to specialize in and then go for it.
