Are You A Good Referrer?

I've been absent for about a week which seems like forever while dealing with moving. It seems like when you miss a few days from BP, you miss a lot.

One thing I noticed as Josh and I Skyped it up for a minute yesterday was that I was currently in 2nd place for referrals to BP.

As you know, there isn't any money involved for referring people to BP but there is a sense of pride in knowing that you introduced X amount of people to this amazing site! I think we can all agree Josh has done and continues to do an amazing job so its easy to say this is an amazing site.

Recently, I posted Web 2.0 is a G-Damn Pyramid Scheme and I discussed having your downline. Knowing the scammy stigma that Pyramid Schemes have we as investors still need to use the principle. Keeping that downline practice in mind. I may not have these particular referrals in my exact downline but it certianly increases my opportunities to fill my downline, which in return, fills my pockets. Same principle, different strategy.

How Could you help increase your downline?

Welll, its very elementary my dear Watson.

If you've got a website, then utilize some of the things Josh provides for you.

This will allow you to place widgets/banners on your site. It doesn't matter if you've got a simple squeeze page or a cheesy wannabe blog/site like I do(trust me, I'll just suck you in and you'll always be dissapointed)

If you've an opportunity to place a tab on your site similar to 'Pages' you can create one that says 'BiggerPockets Forum' and when they click on that, it automatically forwards them to your referral link for BiggerPockets.

Notice at the top of my horribly designed site that there is a simple tab where I've done this. I asked Josh for his permission and as long as I didn't represent the site as mine, he didn't mind.

How about emails? Did you know you can add the HTML code on the Linking to BiggerPockets page into your signature so every time someone gets an email from you, there will be a banner linking to BP and more importantly, linking to your referral page.

Even if you didn't want a big @ss banner on every one of your emails, you can simply add a text link to your signature, something like this is pretty normal for us right? We usually have a name, number, website and something else, why not add a non-intrusive text link? It would be effective simply because its not something you're having to do each and every tme since its part of your signature now.

I've gone a little too far by some standards to promote and inrease my referrals. This was done by actually posting a bunch of ads on Craigslist and Backpage throughout the country in bigger cities where the image was 'clickable' and it brought them to my referrals page.

Sure, that might have been a tad too much, but, what if just one of those people ended up seeing my experience as an investor, decided to do a deal with me and it all came from a simple yet effective method of referring people to a kick @ss site like BiggerPockets.

i could go on and on about building your BP 'downline' and ways to increase your referrals/downline but I'm just simply to busy doing it myself to keep telling you how to do it. Time to consider this as a viable and valuable method to increase your bottom line.

  1. Pretty interesting way to go about things. You are really creative. Not to mention, you hell of a referrer.

  2. Thanks for spreading the word Nick! It is one thing when we let people know about these things, but it is another thing altogether when our members start spreading the word about how to effectively use our site to build their businesses.

    1. Does BP still support referral links?
