Why Notes as an Investment for a Real Estate Brokerage
and why do I care?
1-History
The past 25 years of real estate brokerage and hard money lending experience have provided me an opportunity to compare both notes and real estate investments (REI) through several economic trials. Rental properties, whether commercial or residential, require active involvement vs. passive involvement in the notes (thanks to servicers, the property managers of the note industry). Through the previous 2008 recession, notes faired far better than the REI when the lender chose to work with a borrower. Knowing this made looking to note investing an interesting prospect, especially since the real estate market has become so challenging and bargains tougher to acquire. Watching hundreds of homes needlessly being short sold also exposed us to an insight into the back office side of mortgage lending at it
