Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Short Sale

What Is A Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Short Sale?

A (HECM) Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Short Sale is otherwise known as a Reverse Mortgage short sale. HECM’s are a (HUD) Housing and Urban Development backed product that is given to senior homeowners who have equity in their property. When a HECM is taken out they will be receive a monthly payment for income that comes out of the property’s equity. A HECM is primarily used as a retirement vehicle.

When a property is worth less than what is owed and the homeowner wants to sell their home it will need to be reviewed by the mortgage servicer for a short sale. Two of the larger mortgage servicers for Home Equity Conversion Mortgages are Novad Management Consulting and Freedom Financial. Because of Home Equity Conversion Mortgage’s being a HUD product, the servicers will follow HUD guidelines for the short sale review.

Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Short Sales are not common making them a niche in an already specialty field.
