While waiting for the new kitchen...Intermission...take a look

*** Intermission ***

While waiting for the next new kitchen to be built, please grab your popcorn, sit back and allow us to entertain you.

Take a look at our previous remodel.

This galley kitchen was of 1980s design, and had been painted numerous times.  An upper doors was hanging off the hinges.  The back-splash tile was dark and dated, while there was no task lighting.

The height of these cabinets didn't allow for taller items to be stored, and I was aiming for some visual interest. We opted for taller cabinets and we staggered the height.  My mom had raved about having pull-out drawers for pots, pans and lids.  We gave those a try on this house, and now we rave about them, too.  I will incorporate drawers into the Riverside remodel.

The next step was getting the granite template accomplished.  A crew came out to measure up the cabinet boxes as they were anchored to the walls.  They measured up a template, which can be made of cardboard, plywood, or plastic.  This form will be the same size and shape of the granite.

The fabricator does his magic, to include the edging style that a customer chooses.  When the stone is finished, it is brought to the house and placed over the cabinetry, and is anchored in place.  Attention is given to the seams, and that the granite is level.

Crazy Horse granite is eye catching!

Additionally, we had our handyman install LED lighting at the toe-kick, under and above the upper range of cabinetry.  We used Phillips Hue brand, which can be adjusted with our iPhones.  We can take a photo and match the colors in the photo to the light strips, or use an existing palette of colors.  This is very useful at night, when we can set a dim light...but otherwise, it is somewhat of a gimmick.
