If Nelson Mandela Was A Landlord
Today, we lost a man who brought out the best in so many.
His work inspired me to join the 1985 anti-apartheid protest as a freshman at UC Davis. Even after all these years, I don't regret that act of civil disobedience.
I found myself thinking what type of landlord the Former South African President might be.
- He would've likely invested in low end rentals in inner cities.
- He would've organized the community to fix community problems.
- He wouldn't have tried to co-exist with drug dealers for the sake of cash flow.
- He wouldn't have looked for someone else to speak up about issue that affected those with little influence.
No doubt that I've been influenced by a man I've never met.
No doubt that one determined person can make a difference.
No doubt we should all try.

Wow, very thoughtful and inspiring post. Thank goodness for strong, brave people who set - and follow - high standards and inspire others by their actions. Words and deeds together are a mighty powerful combination. "A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of." -Nelson Mandela

Nice job! I am glad to have lived to see one of the GREATS of this world. I like you have never met but he surely has inspired me throughout the years. I would have come out of prison bitter but not Madiba he forgave and had a beautiful smile. God has called him home his purpose complete

Not the first (or last) inspiring post I've seen from you Al. While I could never make any sort of comparison to Nelson Mandela, treating everyone with the same respect you would like (including tenants), and performing selfless acts for others or the good of all are the types of qualities that continue to make this world a better place to live, for centuries longer than any single man or woman could remain on the earth to perpetuate those ideas..

Yes Sir Mr. Roy. You're spot on!

Al, Nelson Mandela showed us civility and compassion are achievable human qualities and they can triumph over the darkest behaviour of man.
