Most Popular Home Improvements in 2013

2013 Home Improvement Trends

When it comes to home interior features it is important to have what is desired by most potential homebuyers. Therefore, I have found a list of the most popular home improvements for 2013, so when you get ready to sell your home, you will be ahead of your competition.

2013 most popular home improvements:

Fireplace – One or more fireplaces are popular. Nearly 40% of potential buyers say they will pay an extra $1,400 for a home with one or more fireplaces.

Eat-in Kitchen – Most families center their at home lives around the kitchen. Therefore, over 30% of homebuyers say they would pay extra for an eat-in kitchen.

New Home – Most homebuyers say they want to own a home that is less than 5 years old and are willing to pay almost $10,000 more for it.

Stainless Steel Appliances – Stainless steel appliances are still the most popular appliances when upgrading a kitchen. Most homeowners and buyers agree this is an important investment.

Kitchen Island – Kitchen islands seem to be very important to middle aged homebuyers. Nearly 24% of homebuyers say they will pay $1,400 extra for a home with a kitchen island.

Ensuite Master Bath – Most homebuyers these days agree that an ensuite master bath is a popular selling point. This style bath has become extremely popular over the past 10 years and those who really want it will pay over $2,000 for it.

Hardwood Floors – Over 54% of homebuyers say they would pay extra to own a home with hardwood floors. Hardwoods are much preferred over carpeting in most homes.

Granite Countertops – A whopping 60% of potential buyers say they want to own a home with granite countertops. That means an average of 1 in every 5 homebuyers want to buy a home with granite countertops.

Walk-in Closet in Master Bedroom – More than 60% of potential buyers want a walk-in closet in their master bedroom. Custom built closets are even more popular, but buyers are only willing to pay an average of $1,300 more for it.

This information was gathered from 24/7 Wall St. when they used the data from the National Association of Realtors.
