Twitter & Real Estate

Posted on by 1ephb

Twitter…… What is it? How do you use it? What is it about?

That’s the questions I hear most from those that don’t use it to aid in their real estate business. Well,  Twitter is a free social networking site that allows you, its user to send and read messages known as tweets.  Tweets are messages up to 140 characters displayed on your profile page and delivered to your subscribers who are known as followers.

Do to the fact I don’t want to bore you with all the technical stuff, allow me to jump right into why I’m talking about Twitter…… It can help you in your business. I’m going to give you a few tips and sites to make your experience with Twitter a little easier.

Once you have signed up for an account you need to find people to follow. Since we are talking real estate, I want to follow those interested in real estate as well. Twitter has a search people option where you can type in keywords related to real estate. Every person that has that keyword in the Twitter name will pop up and you can follow them, but here is a bit of advice… if they do not have at least 500 followers and follow 80% of them back, don’t wast your time following them.

I have come across a few tools that allow you to track your key words and the people who use them so you can decide if you want to follow them or not.

Socialoomph! is a program that allows you to set features in Twitter so there is no need for you to manually follow those who follow you. There are other great features like automatic direct messages and many more. Check it out, I use it and love it.

Twellow is like a phone book of sorts for twitter. It allows you to look up topics and see who’s saying what. Again, you should be looking up topics in your selected field and following those people. These topics range from “aerospace & aviation” to “textiles” and each topic has subgroups that allow you to be specific in your search.

Twixplode is a program that automates all these things and explodes your follower base. Unlike the 2 previous programs this one isn’t free. The cost is $47 dollars. I’m sure you will see the need for it as far as improving your business contacts and relationships without you having to manually do all this work yourself. If nothing else sign up to get the free lessons on improving your use of twitter. These lessons get emailed to you and cover some things most people overlook. It’s a time saver and your time is what’s most valuable.

You know I almost for to mention. When you start getting these followers you need to make quality post so they will want to read what you have to say. Of course you would post things related to your business such as properties your offering. Other times you may ask yourself “what will I post today”, well if you find a nice article, blog, or story related to real estate…… post it. You could say “interesting article about home values” and post the link to it so your followers can read it. You want to make at least 1 post everyday. It’s that simple, go check it out……. Twitter.
