The Top Reasons to Invest in Vacation Rental Property

I’m a traveler turned vacation property owner. Here’s why I am passionate about vacation rental property ownership.

In a past life, I was a traveler. I’ve been to 45 countries, several of those twice. I developed a fondness for cabins in particular during my travels. I stayed in cabins anywhere I could! Finland, Iceland, Alaska, even some places closer to home. When I realized I could combine my love of travel with my hobby of real estate ownership I was hooked! I began investing in vacation properties and never looked back. I primarily invested in cabins in the Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee. My love and passion for travel grew into a passive income stream and I was able to quit my W2 job. Vacation rental property ownership is very appealing for many investors. Read on for the top reasons on why it is great to be a vacation rental property investor.

A place for your family

Envision a beautiful vacation in the mountains of Tennessee in a cabin – basically a luxury home with hot tub, pool table and supreme mountain views. Now envision yourself owning this property! It is amazing to invest in an asset class that pays for your vacations. Many investors even choose to buy in different areas in order to have something new to experience during each vacation.

Lifestyle assets

You’ve increased your net worth and the quality of your life by buying a vacation home. On your balance sheet these assets will be dubbed ‘lifestyle assets.’ This asset class is highly desirable for wealth building and holds more value than your primary home due to the nature of the cash flow the property creates. With proper underwriting you may even buy an asset that performs well enough to afford to buy another vacation home, and another, and another!

Generational wealth

Owning vacation property becomes a key tool in the race to build generational wealth. The property can be passed down in the family and even be tapped for future equity to acquire additional properties or pay taxes if necessary.
