Top Books All Real Estate Investors Should Read

I’m a real estate investor who never stops learning. Here are my top three books I recommend all investors or would-be investors read.

I have always had a love for reading books of the self-help variety. This has been a great way for me to learn and grow as an investor over the years. Here are the top three books I recommend that all investors, no matter their experience level, read and then re-read!

Rich Dad Poor Dad

This book is an icon and a classic. Every real estate investor has read this book. I actually read this book after I had already begun building my real estate portfolio, which is not the norm. This book typically creates excitement around real estate investing and turns everyone who reads it into a real estate investor or pushes them to act more quickly than they would have. The author, Robert Kiyosaki, had two dads growing up (one was his father, and the other his close friend’s father). This book takes the reader through the lessons that Robert learned while growing up from both fathers (his poor, educated father and his rich, high school drop out father). Read it and you will see what all the hype is about, I plan to re-read this book soon myself.

The Millionaire Real Estate Investor

Penned primarily by Gary Keller (of Keller Williams) this is a great read. I had first read his book, The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, which my broker had given to me when I joined the ranks of Keller Williams as an agent in the Smoky Mountains (be careful if you read this book – it may make you want to get your real estate license!) This book in particular is very motivating, as it gives the account of over 100 millionaire investors, particularly their wisdom-based insights and experience. It goes through proven models and how to establish sound criteria for making your first or next investment.

The Book on Negotiating Real Estate

I read this book in my real estate women’s mastermind as a part of our quarterly book club. This is a great book to read and re-read when you are actively making offers on properties you are looking to purchase or even sell. It goes through some specific examples of when and how to negotiate, and for me this book gave some pretty awesome tips and advice that I hadn’t considered before. It covers everything from the psychology of building relationships (to assist in creating leverage when negotiating) to structuring offers and counter offers to be more successful in closing deals. The authors, J Scott, Mark Ferguson and Carol Scott, have interesting backgrounds where J and Carol came from the corporate world and all authors are accomplished bestselling authors with amazing real estate portfolios.
