My Property Manager Fired Me!

Yeah! My Property Manager fired me yesterday! Now let me explain what happened.

We had flooding in one of my properties a few days ago. It inflicted damage to the gas heater and thus it needed replacement. Now my property manager came back with a quote and well – it was ridiculous! He quoted $4,000 to pump out the basement flooding and $1800 to replace the gas heater – labelling the situation as an emergency and thus having no time to wait for a lesser expensive alternative!

On top of this, the property manager even threatened to put the tenant in a hotel at my expense if I didn’t approve of his work order. I was startled for once, but I knew I was being pushed into a bad decision. I had a feeling that these prices were like a highway robbery!

So, I reached out to multiple investors to discuss the situation at hand, and they all agreed that the prices were way too high. One of them was even naïve enough to connect me to his contractor. Conclusively, I am about to save half off on the rehab cost!

Now, when I told my property manager that I have found a new contractor, they fired me! I just laughed for I had already seen it coming. Later when I discussed this issue with my new property manager, he told me that the previous PM could have “patched” the work to buy us more time and that I shouldn’t have been forced to decide right on the spot.

Perhaps, everything happens for a reason. So many lessons learned
