Self Storage- Deaf, a DUH moment

Had a teacher from the Iowa School for the Deaf call yesterday and ask if her students could visit. They are taking them through different life experiences such as renting a storage unit. They stopped by today and I took them through how to rent self-storage and the self-storage "pricing" game (free rent, price increases, etc) for customers.

I asked them what I could take from them to make renting easier. Two options of either Closed Caption or a box with an interpreter on our YouTube rental process. They said the Closed Caption would be better. Asked them about Blind people. They decided they would probably have someone assisting them in both the rental and move, thus don't change anything.

Messaged my SEO and asked how to do Closed Caption. He said write out the verbal on the YouTube. Took me 15 minutes of listening and typing. Sent it to him. 30 minutes later our Rental YouTube has closed caption. Didn't cost a thing.

A "DUH" moment for me. Something so simple.

We might get more Deaf people, being close to the School for the Deaf. Normally I get about 1 renter with a translator call about every 4 to 5 months.

Next step is to figure out Spanish. We are near the Spanish part of town and get about 2 calls per week. Normally they have a young school student talk with me, but I will check on either Closed Caption or have a voice over in Spanish. My SEO is researching now.

Start small and Make Your Big Mistakes Early. The above example is of a problem. But luckily it is a small operational/financial issue and later in our growth. Always keep learning.
