What Type of Water Heater is in My Mobile Home???
The normal water heater that we see in mobile homes are the water heaters that are specifically made for a mobile home, I have no idea why or who thought that making a mobile home specific water heater was a good idea but they still make and sell them today at the big box retailers. These water heaters are fed with a cold water supply at the bottom of the water heater which makes them very difficult to remove without cutting the water lines out from in front of the heater which means you have to turn off the water to the whole house because there is usually no cut off valve on the heater to isolate it from the rest of the home. Most of these heaters are in behind a wall hidden away from where the homeowners never look at them until they start leaking and cause damage to the floors and walls, if and when you need to change the heater you also need to check the area that heater sits in to see if you can install a pan under the heater to protect your home from damage. When its time to go pick out a new water heater for your mobile home go look at a conventional water heater that is fed from the top of heater, this will require extending the water lines up to the top of the heater, don't forget to install new cutoff valve on the water lines feeding the water heater, this will save you lots of time and money the next time you have to change out your heater. Don't forget to measure the opening the new heater goes in or you will be removing lots of walls board to install the new heater.
