What do Real Estate Investing and the Coronavirus have in common?

2876. This is an interesting number, but what does it mean? Any of us who invest, or are beginner investors (myself) know how crucial numbers can be. The smallest of details with numbers can mean the difference success or failure. Whether balancing your check book, figuring out whether to invest in your next deal, or a math test that you need to pass to get into med school.

Any of us who are serious about investing in any of its forms also realize the importance of mindset and how vital cultivating a successful mindset is in any endeavor. Proper numbers with the a healthy mindset not only helps you see things as they are, but helps to dismiss any irrational fears that may stop you from landing your next deal.

While at the gym, after about 20 minutes, I noticed the news and saw what it repeatedly talked about: COVID-19, or Coronavirus. I start to watch the news and notice myself getting sucked in by it.

The worry, the fear. It's almost a hysteria, a hype that surrounds this virus-carrying away any that will buy into it.

No research done, no numbers ran.

Like Real Estate, their are those who will get swept away in the hype of this virus.

So, I then stopped myself and said," If i'm going to worry about this, lets make sure its for good reason." And I did my own research.

As my fear turned to curiosity, I decided to take action and come to my own conclusion. I pulled up some stats on the coronavirus. At the time of writing this draft, 97,000 cases worldwide were reported.

Then I headed over to Worldometers.info and pulled up some facts.

Roughly 2,900 deaths- or 2876- is the toll the virus has taken in 45 days . This is including the US, but when we ONLY factor the US, this number (from what I remember) is roughly 700 cases reported and a little over 10 deaths.

As an added bonus, China today has reported 80,757 with 3,136 deaths. This is a 3.8% mortality rate. This is almost identical to the US.

And if any of these numbers seem shocking, just go look up vehicle deaths, heart disease, and cancer in the US.

Numbers tell a story. What a person chooses to focus on, they'll see.

Instead of focusing on the news and its agenda, I decided for myself. That being said, again, I personally believe it is important to due your own "due diligence" and take what you hear with a bag of salt. Doing your own homework and not paying someone else to do it will help you develop your own perspective of the situation so you can make a decision, that is based on facts and not emotion, in your best interest.

To conclude, don't blow things out of proportion before knowing the facts.

I am no expert on disease or real estate. I am also someone who is looking for his first deal after committing to R.E. Investing 5 months ago, so what do I know? Not too much on either of these topics. But i do have a fascination with what makes people tick and Real Estate.

What I have been wise enough to learn, and work to improve, everyday is with proper mindset and seeing things for what they are can help to traverse through the 'all to natural' fears. I'm sure their are some deeper lessons to learn from this that'll carry over into life, into Real Estate.
