If you have got a feeling that you have a lot of knowledge about certain things that you could share with the world and help spread useful information or opinions to others, maybe you could become a thought leader - a person, who is recognized as a specialist in a particular subject and whos opinions have a big influence on others.

Obviously you can’t be a self-declared thought leader, first, you will have to gain enough following and trust of your audience who could later recognize you as one. So if you are passionate about it and believe that your words should be heard, keep reading, because I will share some of the tips about how can you gain the audience and where can you express yourself freely.

Gaining Audience:

Before jumping into promoting yourself on different social media platforms, asking them to follow your Twitter or Instagram account, there are a couple of things you should do, for example, choosing the area you are best at.

“Don’t attempt to be a tough leader in every area, instead focus on what you know the best” - Jake Dunlap.

Basically, instead of forcing your personal opinions on people about everything in the world, choose the area where you actually have enough knowledge to share with others and that will be informative for them because nobody would stick around a person from whom they can’t learn anything new.

You will also have to work on expressing your ideas. Everyone has their own opinions about certain things, but not just anybody can grow an audience who would listen to them on a daily basis. Work on yourself - try to express yourself as clearly as possible and make it interesting to listen to.

Where to express yourself:

This is where social media can come in hand - it has many platforms that allow people to express themselves and their opinions on subjects, you just have to choose which one you are more comfortable with.

If you want to make your listeners feel like you are directly communicating with them, filming videos and uploading them on youtube would be the best option for you. YouTube allows a person of any age to upload any type of content on their platforms and actually generate income from the AdSense program if they are the age of 18 or more. Additionally, you will be able to get feedback from your listeners in the comment section, under your video.

Or maybe you are a little camera shy, that’s fine with social media ass well. Instead of filming videos, you could actually record a podcast and share your ideas with the audience that way. Podcast has been getting very popular this couple years and to be honest are much commonly used by thought leaders today.

Writing blog posts is also a great idea if you feel more comfortable expressing yourself that way and it actually could be a lot easier. Most of the thought leaders run their own blogs since it’s most likely to get recognition and gain the audience by writing blog posts about popular topics in a particular area.

Obviously, you are also free to combine them all, at the end of the day, what matters is what you have to say and how you will be able to capture people’s attention.
