Busyness is Not Good Business

"Hey! How've you been?!" 

"Ugh I'm soooo busy!" 

Isn't the goal of real estate investing to create freedom in our lives?

We all claim that we are working toward financial freedom, independence from "the man", and creating our own schedule. Yet, we are constantly bragging about being bogged down by a bunch of busy work. 

Don't get me wrong, I am all about the hustle early to get ahead mentality. But we are fooling ourselves if we think that we can allow our businesses and investments to run our lives so that someday that won't be the case. That is literally training yourself to do what you want to avoid. 

As a younger entrepreneur and real estate investor, I'll admit that there is a certain unavoidable reality to being busy as hell. And yes, this can be a good sign at first. Although, as I look around the industry at many agents and investors who have been at it for 10+ years, the majority are still run by their business. They still do all of those little tasks that they hate, and yes, they still complain about them too.

Well what should we invest our time in? 

Ourselves. 

A great question to ask yourself about the work that you are doing: "If this project, business, job, or investment fails, is this still a good use of my time?"

The point of this question is to determine whether the work that you are doing is helping you build invaluable skills that you will use to succeed on your path in the future. 

This same concept can be used in our personal lives. Did you know that about 70% of undergrad graduates never read a non-fiction book again in their lives? This is ludicrous. The average adult spends 4 hours staring at their cell phone each day. Say you spend 3-5 hours per day between television and playing around on your cell phone.. If you only dedicated ONE of those hours each day to becoming great or knowledgeable at something, could you imagine the results after 5 years? 1825 hours later?? 

Your time can either be your resource or someone else's, you decide.
