Real Estate Secrets From a Horror Movie

An oldie, but a goodie, horror movie for me is John Carpenter's 1980 flick, The Fog.

I mean, really... what's not to like?

A young Adrienne Barbeau?

And Jamie Lee Curtis in her 20s?

Yes, please.

Anyway...

So if you're not familiar with the story, here's the Reader's Digest version...

It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog which sweeps over a small coastal town in California, bringing with it the vengeful ghosts of mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there 100 years before.

Now, as early '80s horror flicks go, it didn't do great at the box office, but over the last 39 years, it's become a bit of a cult classic.

And as I thought about it, I got to thinking about the idea of a thick fog, and how it can be a little scary.

Kinda like when you're looking at making a new financial decision, like buying real estate.

You see, making money boils down to 2 very simple things (unlike what the Wall Street ex-spurts have you believe).

1. You must recognize a good idea. Is your cousin's nephew's son's new app idea a good one? Probably not.

But is getting an income stream from a great piece of real estate? Well, that's for you to decide.

2. You have to be brave to walk into the "fog" of uncertainty. This doesn't mean being reckless --- but to take a chance without having 100% of the information, to try it out for yourself.

There's a saying in the Army that an 80% plan today is better than a 100% plan tomorrow.

What it means is --- once you've started, things will change. So it's better to get started today than wait until everything is "perfect" (which it never is).

Anyway, this is what real estate investing is all about...

It's an idea (though I know it's proven... you have to decide for yourself) about how to get an income stream now while owning an asset which should continue to appreciate in value.

Now all it takes is for you to walk into the fog... just a little bit... to see what it's all about.
