How to find a property manager
One of the most intimidating things you can do is close on your first property.
You are horrified by all the documents you are signing and the fact you have to hock your first born to buy your first house.
Most investors will tell you that you make money on the buy.
Ever heard that before?
However, I would tell you choosing the right property manager is a lot more important than buying it correctly.
They can make a bad buy bearable or can make a great buy a nightmare.
As a property manager, here are 3 things to consider when choosing a property manager for the first time:
- Referrals - Real estate is synonymous with referrals. Typically, if you have a close neighbor who listed and sold their home using a certain agent or realty company, you are more than likely going to use that same person as well.
Do you have a friend who is leasing their home through a property manager?
- Reviews - Reading reviews can be very helpful when searching for a new property manager. Make sure you don't just read the reviews from tenants (they tend to be bad). Also, include looking at reviews from their clients.
- Know what is important to you. Do you expect a certain type of communication? Do you like your money before a certain date?
All these are questions you should have prepared before speaking with a property management company.
