The Power Of Positivity

I'm not much of a raw-raw guy, but it is striking to me that almost all of my network constantly posts feel-good positive videos, pictures, etc. on my Facebook, GooglePlus, etc. feeds. Many of these folks I consider peers and most of them are very successful at what they do. Perhaps I should go pick up some Tony Robbins material and start studying more myself.

About 3 months ago I decided to take a 12-week Dale Carnegie intensive course. Famous folks like Warren Buffett have taken it and generally had positive things to say about it. I have 2 sessions left to go and pretty much the whole course has focused on public speaking, believing in yourself, and the power of positive thinking. It is a great course for learning to interact with people and get your team to do their utmost.

I invite you to share your thoughts and comments about the power of positive thinking in this post along with any experience you have with good books or courses on this.

  1. I'm so glad you posted about this. Congratulations on taking the course and changing your life! I too have attended Dale Carnegie's Leadership 12-week course. I actually won the Dale Carnegie's highest award for achievement voted upon by my peers. As with Warren Buffet, it's the only award I have hanging in my office. After taking the course my income has increased over 30%. I live by Dale Carnegie's golden rules. Prior to the class I was introverted. I still am, but you'd never know if you met me. I actually just made a post on my blog here about 3 books that everyone should read, you should check it out by clicking on my name. One of the top three is Dale Carnegie's How to win friends and influence people. I really can't stress how being positive has changed my life enough rather than re-iterating. I never changed my business, I changed my attitude, way of thinking, and how I interact with other people and have increased my income by over 30%. I'd say the #1 thing I took away from Dale Carnegie's course was remembering people's names. I take decisive action and use methods learned in the book and in the course to remember everyone's name I come in contact with. Remind you, I used to be an introvert who would say, "Sorry I'm not good with names". This isn't easy and it took work, but now I remember everyone's name from the folks who work at Starbucks to the assistants at my kid's doctor's office. Like Steven Above, I really would like to concur that "think and grow rich" is a life changing book. I've read the book and listened to the audiobook multiple times. It's absolutely true that a positive mind with a burning desire combined with direct action gets big results. Maybe my next blog post should be about Think and Grow Rich. Napoleon Hill and W Clement Stone are two folks that pretty much lived the life of what Andrew Carnegie had discovered. I'd love to continue to hear how the course improves your business, keep us posted.

  2. I'm totally with you on the mindset of positive thinking. One of the first books I picked up on it was a Carnegie book. It was very influential. I've looked back and noticed the most impacting books and some of my favorites are the mind set ones that focus on setting yourself up for success. They all have the same mindset in common of thinking positively. It goes a long way. I've not even finished "Think and Grow Rich" but I love the messages it has that pertain to setting yourself up for success. Probably one of the biggest most striking things I've picked up from this is on goal setting. I always had trouble setting goals because I was told not to make them too high. I'm not supposed to disappoint myself. Well, I actually prefer to set them way too high because even if I never reach them I know I'm still going in the same direction. That right there gives me positive energy to move forward with the small steps along the way.
