Change Your Mindset - Get To instead of Have To

I've been frequenting BP quite a bit over the last few weeks and I keep seeing one trend among newbies that I think might be holding some people back.

That trend is being penny wise and pound foolish (as the saying goes).

People are reluctant to get real estate agents involved because they might have to pay them.

People are reluctant to get CPAs involved because they might have to pay them.

People are reluctant to get Attorneys involved because they might have to pay them.

People are afraid to pay for lease forms and for educational books and programs that might teach them many useful things and prevent many problems.

People are afraid to pay closing costs.

I realize money is tight, especially in the beginning.

But if you are entering the real estate arena, you should realize there is a knowledge and experience factor at work, just like in any other business.

For example:

I know how to fix and install toilets, but I don't do it. I hire a professional plumber to do it for me. I wanted it done right and I was willing to pay for it.

I know how to paint the exterior of my house, but I don't do it. I hire a professional painter to do it for me. I wanted it done right and I was willing to pay for it.

So, what's the answer?

The answer is to shift your mindset.

You don't HAVE TO pay for any of these things.

You GET TO pay for these things.

You get to hire a CPA to make sure everything is done properly and so you can learn from them.

You get to hire an attorney to make sure everything is done property and so you can learn from them.

Remember, you don't have to do anything, AND your deal doesn't have to be successful either.

Instead, I'm suggesting you start realizing that you GET TO pay for these things and you GET TO be successful.

That mindset shift from HAVE TO vs GET TO applies to many things in life (such as your marriage, job, kids, family, etc.), but it sure as heck applies to real estate.
