Staying True To Your True North

How do we know that our lives aren’t going in the direction we wanted? The answer: When we stray off-course from our true north.

Our true north acts as a sort of moral compass to our lives, and while the fantasy of staying true to our callings and purposes for the rest of our lives is certainly a nice one, we often stray from these paths more times than we think.

So how do we really commit to our true north? And how do we correct our course should we lose our way? To answer that, we need to consider a few things:

We aren’t on the right path all the time

We often believe that the path we’re walking is leading us to our goals.

Which is why it can be difficult to turn away from our current path when most of us have been set on it for so long. We might not even listen to sensible advice from others who may even try to convince us otherwise.

Acknowledging that we need a change of course in life has a big impact on realigning with our true north. Ignoring the fact that we are on the path to a dead-end is nothing short of foolish.

The hard path is the right way, the easy path leads us astray

It’s ironic to say that the hard path is the wrong way. It’s even insane to ask how hard it is to let go of the idea that the easy path does not always lead us toward our goals.

In most cases, the path that leads to progress isn’t often the road where the sidewalk is smoother and easier to run across. It’s actually the broken-down street that we hesitate to cross.

Your instincts will most likely point you across that dangerous street, and you may even question them for leading you this far. But trust your gut to lead you towards your hopes and dreams.

Pessimism blocks us from our true north

We beat ourselves up a bit too much in bad situations rather than seeing the brighter side of them.

Straying from our true north is sometimes caused by self-pity and doubt that keep us from further pursuing our goals. It is best to keep an optimistic and positive view of any situation, good or bad, in order to stay focused on what you want to achieve.

The path toward your true north can be like flying in the air. It’s never really going in a straight line, but also dipping, turning, diving, and going in all sorts of directions. It falls to you to make sure that it’s headed toward your goals and dreams.
