Lead a Fruitful Life by Destroying Your Bad Habits

No one is perfect. Not a single person can claim to be good all throughout. In other words, people are prone to having bad habits which keep them from becoming successful.

If that is the case, then why do we still have these bad habits? Is there a way we can stop them from pulling us deeper?

Obviously, the answer is YES, but first, we need to know what makes a bad habit.

Bad habits

According to Wikipedia, bad habits are negative behavior patterns that include such activities as watching too much TV or nailbiting.

These habits are unhealthy and can cause our lives to slow down. But how do they come about?

1. Your Brain

Nail biting, watching T.V for 7 hours a day and a lot more. These are all examples of bad habits. For sure, they are a result of your brain’s programming. If you are doing something repeatedly your mind internalizes the action and, in effect, absorbs it as a part of their schema.

2. Boredom

When you have nothing particular to do and you feel bored the whole day, bad habits become your way of dealing with such a situation.

What to do about it?

Learn to stop what triggers it

You might itch to bite your nails or craving over that large pack of nachos. The first thing you need to do is to discipline yourself or avoid these triggers. It’s hard to pull off, but you can always find a much-needed distraction in keeping yourself busy.

Make a list

Get a paper and pen and write down all your bad habits. Make two columns and place all your bad habits on the left side, and all the countermeasures on the right. Doing this will make you realize how do these hindrances block you from accomplishing your goals.

Create a purpose for doing this

If you truly want to get rid of those bad habits, you need to have a greater reason why you want to break free. It is important that you must know how these habits affect your life. From there, you can finally get a good grasp of what it is you need to do to keep yourself in check.

Stay consistent

You're already taking some steps towards change and elimination. The only thing that you need to do now is to solidify it!

Give yourself some reward

After your hard work, it's not bad to reward and congratulate yourself on a job well done. Of course, you’ve made a great leap towards changing yourself. But remember to stay with your new principles and live life with a purpose.
