How to Make the Most Out of Your Downtime

Let’s talk about one issue that really annoys people who want to become successful, and that’s downtime!

We only have 24 hours to spend per day with at most half of it being dedicated to downtime. It’s that period in the day where you feel like doing nothing, either because you’re bored or you’re already fed up of doing menial tasks.

Still, each one of us deserves his or her own downtime, mostly because we’re not like machines that are made numb to soulless grinding. So, downtime is actually a moment of respite from the hardships of daily life.

Then again, you may want to use much of your downtime for productive work and personality development. That being said, here are a few tips that should help you maximize your downtime.

1. Read books

Are you fond of reading? Then take this time to read books that will leave a long-lasting impression upon you. After all, reading has always been a wholesome activity for everybody since it allows you to let go of your imagination and discover new things along the way. If you really want to learn new things in your free time, then I would suggest reading inspirational books on business, life, and things in general. Sure enough, this doesn’t only enrich your intellectual and emotional life but enhance your language skills as well.

2. Listen to podcasts

Do you know it’s possible to learn while you’re doing something else? Well, I can tell you right, it has worked very well for me. Whenever I’m driving or waiting in line, I take out my phone or tablet and listen to my favorite podcasts on motivation and multifamily real estate investing. This has allowed me to make use of my downtime to learn concepts that will help me grow further.

3. Go for a walk

What do you usually do on a Sunday morning? For me, I would spend the early hours going around town on foot and feel the cool breeze. It’s a great way to start my week because whenever I jog or take a walk, I also do a lot of thinking. It really helps when I move around because new ideas come in more quickly than when I am sitting in front of the computer. Plus, this form of exercise is great for stimulating my cardiovascular system and improving my heart’s performance!

4. Chat with some friends or influencers

Whenever I go to another city during a holiday, I often ask anyone I know who’s there to meet. Of course, we’re not going to talk about business! I just ask them to hang out with me, play some golf, drink some wine, and share interesting stories. I am blessed to have a lot of friends who keep me company and enjoy the things in life that I like very much. Aside from friends, I also reconnect with influencers because I can always learn a lot from them. The beauty of this is that you are able to maintain very close connections while you learn some more about life outside of work!

How about you? How do you make the most out of your relaxed hours? Let me hear about it in the comments below.
