Priority and Delegation: How They Help You Take Action

Time management can help you take control of your life. And no doubt, this will involve a great deal of delegating certain tasks you simply cannot handle on your own.

Priority and delegation are two key parts of time management that help you maintain the quality of your work without having to spend an unnecessary amount of time on them.

But what does it mean to prioritize and delegate in order to take action?

Priority

Do you have certain tasks that might be more important than others? Prioritizing is key when organizing these for the day.

By prioritizing your tasks, you save your energy only on what you need to do for the day. It also helps anyone involved to work better along with you.

In order to prioritize your tasks, you need to learn to:

  • List down what needs doing for today: Write a list of everything that needs to be done for the day.
  • Identify the ones with the most urgency: The more important it is, the more it should have your attention. Consider highlighting these or placing them high up your list in order not to forget them anytime soon.
  • Break down each task: How much time exactly do you need to accomplish each task listed? Especially the important ones? Have a breakdown of how many minutes, hours, or even days you may have to finish the priority tasks.
  • If in doubt, rearrange or remove tasks: If you feel like you might not make it or that you don’t have enough time, show that you’re flexible and willing to change up your workflow in order to save time on more important tasks that need your attention sooner.

Delegation

What do you do with your time? Do you have people under you who can work well on certain tasks? This is what it means to delegate.

Delegating your time, whether it’s on your free or working hours, is really all about deciding which tasks to take, and which ones you can assign to others or leave to others.

Ask yourself if what you’re doing now is helping you proceed towards more important matters or if it’s actually hindering you from taking the necessary and valuable actions.

Priority and delegation can help you manage your time and resources. Use them to full effect and experience the results yourself.
