Self-Worth: Why Do You Need To Value And Love Yourself

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection”

― Sharon Salzberg

Are you being shaken up by every insult and criticism? Do you feel like being a step-down, mocked, abused and hurt? Does it affect how you value yourself?

You may realize that there’s a problem in a society where everyone has a word about you. They focus on your flaws and weaknesses for their own self-gratification.

But, are you really giving in to those words?

How about I share with you something that would strengthen your self-worth!

What is Self-worth?

Merriam Webster defines it as “a sense of one’s own value as a human being”. This also means how much you love, accept and acknowledge everything about yourself. It includes your appearance, abilities, attitude, status, and achievements.

As we define self-worth, I’m slowly introducing you to the delightful side of yourself. Now let’s talk about the five ways it can lead you to.

1. Happiness

Life is full of smiles when you acknowledge your self-worth. You can move freely and comfortably without thinking that people might think ill of you. But that’s just because you know you are living with a purpose.

2. Self-discovery

When you acknowledge self-worth, you begin to discover more about yourself. This results in the amplification of the wonderful talents, habits, interests, and attitudes that have been thriving within you for quite some time now.

3. Self-acceptance

Knowing more about your worth means accepting everything about yourself. This includes your strengths and weaknesses, appearance, and attitudes. This, in turn, helps you recognize your true value!

4. Self-love

Accepting oneself leads to self-love. Because once you understand and value yourself, you begin to enjoy more about yourself. It's like your confident to walk in a crowd wherein you're wearing a signboard “I LOVE MYSELF”!

Final thoughts

Self-worth is one of the most important aspects to underscore in life. If you don’t know how to acknowledge and appreciate yourself, how can other people respect and understand you? Remember that self-respect leads to respect for others, which is something a truly authentic life entails.
