How I Was Able to Discover My True Calling

Normal 1551190164 How I Was Able To Discover My True Calling

Everyone has a dream to pursue. There’s no doubt that each one of us has a drive for something great. When we begin to dream big, we are also searching for our true calling. This, of course, is our mission in life. It’s something we need to strive for because it’s supposed to give our lives meaning.

Still, it doesn’t always work out for the best. One thing I realized is that we can always aim for a goal in life, but there’s no guaranteeing that we can be happy once we have attained that goal.

People are very complex, and I know this because I went through a difficult dilemma during the first quarter of my life.

How I found my true calling

Before I became an investor in the commercial real estate sector, I already had my eyes on getting a degree in engineering. Growing up in New Delhi, India, I spent my childhood years putting toys together. This fascination would, later on, convince me to take up mechanical engineering. My goal was to become a very successful engineer, so I studied hard and I made it on the university’s honor roll.

It was smooth sailing from then on out. I got a job as a planning and design engineer in a company based in Bombay. I thought I was living the life of a truly successful person. I was enjoying a handsome paycheck every month and the job wasn’t really that difficult, and yet, I still felt empty.

I didn’t know why. I thought I have already made it big, but I still felt as if there’s still a big void in my life. I soon realized that engineering wasn’t my true calling. It didn’t make me happy because I was still yearning for something greater.

I found it in America, where dreams are supposed to come true. With only $7 with me when I first arrived, I felt rejuvenated since I was off to start a new adventure. It wasn’t too late. As I focused on getting my MBA, I also spent ample time learning the tricks of the trade, from marketing to closing a deal. The new skills I learned were later valuable to my future successes as a multifamily syndicator.

So, you can say that I have found my true calling in real estate, where every day, there’s always an opportunity to learn something new.

How to find your true calling

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from. For me, the most important thing is that everyone has the potential to be successful in their own little way. It’s only a matter of putting your heart on the things that you are passionate about.

This is one thing that I want my students and fellow investors need to know: Passion drives success. To be successful, you need to learn how to love what you do. Being an engineer paid off really well for me, but I didn’t like sitting around all day, being alone with my thoughts. I wasn’t cut out for that. I wanted to be with people, talk with them, and share great ideas. Being an investor was all I wanted all along because it gave me a reason to be happy.

Since then, I haven’t looked back! In fact, I have just added a new asset to my investment portfolio. It’s these moments that get me truly excited about life!

So, to wrap everything up, if you’re set on finding your true calling, don’t try to force yourself into doing something you think isn’t giving you a reason to smile. Know where your passion lies and from there, you can find a reason to live life with a purpose!
