Getting Info From The IRS, Without Stirring Unwanted Attention

"What simple action could you take today to produce a new momentum toward success in your life?" - Anthony Robbins

4-Minute Read

There is a lot of fear and angst in our culture these days. Our culture has been deeply affected by tragic current world events such as the war in Ukraine and a general sense of disjointedness due to the IRS firing over 7,000 employees.

But for many who might be reading this blog, there is another one that might be lurking latent beneath these other issues, further adding to the stress of our modern life: fear of the IRS.

You see, there are situations in which you may know you used to owe money to the IRS, but things have been quiet for years, and you haven't heard much.

However, if you contact the IRS, there is a chance that it could put your file back on its "active" list.

You don't want to poke the bear, as it could lead to your case being put back on the 'active' list, potentially triggering collection actions or audits.

Today, we offer you a solution to alleviate this fear and stress...

By entrusting your IRS communication to a professional, you not only avoid the stress of long hold times and unnecessary attention, but you also gain the assurance of getting accurate answers.

Your tax professional has a unique advantage that you don't: The Practitioner Priority Service.

Essentially, this is a dedicated phone line that the IRS has made available to certified tax professionals (Enrolled Agents, Attorneys, and CPAs) to ask questions about their clients' accounts.

These inquiries are made 'under the IRS radar,' ensuring your peace of mind and the security of your information.

That's because the IRS representatives that staff the Practitioner Priority Service are not associated with the IRS collection division.

The Practitioner Priority Service line is open with limited service due to continued staffing limitations. The IRS is working hard to return to normal Centralized Authorization File (CAF) processing operations.

They are not IRS Revenue Officers, so you can rest assured that your inquiries won't lead to any aggressive collection actions.

And they do not work for the IRS Automated Collection Service.

They are there to answer our questions and provide information about our clients' accounts.

The staff there are simply dispensing information, and they don't have anything in their job description that would put our inquiries into any queue for future follow-up.

When your tax professional makes that call on your behalf, it's done discreetly and with minimal risk to you.

Here are some of the things your tax pro can find out on your behalf from the IRS Practitioner Priority Service:

  • >How much longer does the IRS have to collect the taxes from you? By statute, the IRS has 10 years -- but the Practitioner Priority Service can tell us the end dates the IRS has in their internal database.
  • >Your tax pro can determine if the IRS has sent out a Final Notice of Intent to Levy, whether they can levy your wages, accounts, and property, and if you have appeal rights to stop it.
  • >Is your IRS account in active collection status or currently uncollectible and inactive?
  • >Has your case been assigned to the IRS Automated Collection Service or a local Revenue Officer?
  • >Your tax pro can find out the last time you officially filed a tax return and the information the IRS has for preparing the returns.
  • >Has the IRS properly applied and processed any payments you have made?
  • >Exactly how much you owe the IRS, including the IRS calculations of interest and penalties (which can double the amount due every five years).
  • >Can your tax liabilities be discharged in bankruptcy, giving you a clean slate with the IRS?

When your tax pro calls on their dedicated Practitioner line, your tax pro can also secure internal IRS transcripts of your account, verifying everything the representative tells them. This provides you with a backup verification for your records on what the IRS has on your account.

To sum up, here's the great news: You don't have to be in the dark about your IRS tax liability or fear asking the IRS questions.

Get answers by having the right professional in your corner, who can get you information without poking the bear.

Warmly,

Janet Behm
