Choosing a Contractor

Some Tips for Choosing a Contractor

•Licensed/Insured (request current copies)

•History of successful performance- check references, look at pictures

•Ask detailed questions about how they will perform the work

•Do they look professional

•Do they answer their phone and return phone calls

•Is their estimate in writing with a detailed scope of work

•Make sure there are penalties if work is not complete by a certain time

Stay clear of:

-It will be about $........

-I should be able to…….

-I need to be paid in advance….......... (work out a draw schedule and stick to it)

-I need to be paid daily

-Can I borrow your tools

Make your own materials list and scope of work. Contractors have no vested interest in your final appraisal so you choose your materials and finish out.

"NEVER EVER EVER" LET YOUR CONTRACTOR CHOOSE THE FINISH OUT OR MATERIAL!
