Locating Title Insurance for a Refinance - Attorney question
The attorney for my refinance sent me this message. Has anyone else ever had this question? I'm wondering about "adding" an attorney to my mortgage account. Does that make sense to anyone?
Can you please look in your files for a prior Owner's Title Insurance Policy? I have reached out to multiple underwriters this morning, however none were able to locate your prior title insurance policy. This policy allows us to conduct a brief title search versus a full 30 year search, which would take a much longer time to complete. You can also contact your current mortgage lender and ask them to add me to your account for purposes of obtaining (1) payoff related information, and (2) prior title policy. Once you have done this please provide me with the lender's information, your loan number and last four of your SSN.
Thx..

Regarding the attorney needing to get a payoff statement...I understand that.
The bank is saying that that I would need to come in to a bricks and mortar bank to "add" the attorney to the account. OR I could just be on the phone and merge the call. Physically going to the bank is out, so hoping the phone call will work.
Adding an attorney to an account vs. just giving them access to it seem like two different things.
I assure you he is not asking to be added to your mortgage. It was probably just a poor choice of words on his part, and you may be asking the wrong questions of your mortgage servicer.
Most mortgage servicers have a simple form, something along the lines of an "Authorization to Release Information" to grant a third party access to payoff information, etc. You most likely just need to fill that out and fax it in.
You were right...That form was all I needed. Done deal.
Thx all!
