Self insuring/ Interest bearing fund

Does anyone have experience with self insuring and starting a interest bearing fund? Assuming the premiums would be switched from the insurance company to the new fund it should stack up quickly to provide for a potential loss. Ideally this would earn interest, possibly tax deferred and have some liquidity or allow to be borrowed against in the event of a loss. Solo K?
