Workman's Comp Insurance for Roofing and GC

Cameron Martin
Posted Apr 1 2024, 07:32

Hello,

My contractor is having trouble finding affordable Workman's comp insurance to cover her General Contractor Business. She also does roofing as well. Any recommendations for affordable companies that provide this coverage in Northwest Indiana? Work will be in Highland, IN.

@Cameron Martin WC rates for GC & roofing are typically 20-35% of the total payroll.  So, $100k of payroll would generate $20k-$35k in WC premiums.  Without knowing the situation I believe she is just unaware of the true cost of the WC.

Jason's comment is spot on, IMHO she should find a very good insurance broker, they're allegiance is to the customer.

That's not too bad, back in Cali I used to pay 50% on my GC crew. And the roofers paid 100% IIRC....

Wait a minute, if you don't mind my asking, why are you looking for insurance for your Contractor?

Thank you very much, that is helpful.
