Find an insurance broker in the area of the property. They are unbiased and know which carriers are competetive at any given time.

    Jose,

I echo Cameron's recommendation.  You need an Independent Agent that does business in NY.  It is especially important if the property is a Row House or Co-op.  Both have special considerations and are more common in NYC than other states.  Also, Independent Agents who write a lot of policies in a state tend to have more markets (insurance companies) for that state.  There are Regional Insurance companies that only operate in a few states.  I have found that those regional companies can often have competive rates for the Homeowners & Dwelling Fire (for fully rented 1-4 family properties) Policies

Hi Jose, I would recommend talking to the broker that we use for all of our managed properties here in NYC, Chris Majcher at Greenpoint Insurance. I would add contact info for him but the forum won't allow.

He is by far the best connected insurance broker I've worked with. Worth reaching out.
