Question about MLS.com

When trying to pull comps for a particular property everyone says you should use mls.com. When I do this though it always will forward me off to some partner site, such as ziprealty.com. Now my question is do those sites actually have up to date mls listings? Or is there something I am missing? Do I have to go through an RE agent to get comps? How do you guys do it?

Thanks,
Ian
