Getting Started Wholesaling

Hello, BP wholesalers.  I have been listening to many podcasts lately such as Sean Terry, Joe Evangilisti and Matt Theriault.  Much of the conversation is on wholesaling and how successful a person can be doing this.  I know there is work to do however what I would like to know is how difficult is it to actually make money doing this.  I see many ads in my area on craigslist for We Buy Houses and I know there is competition in my area.  So how hard is it to actually break into this area?
