Rent control is starting to spared faster and faster in Maryland! If you don't get out and speak against this, it will be in the whole state before you know it.  Below is a letter from a landlord association I belong to: (sad to say but there is only 2 or 3 in the whole state)

https://montgomeryperspective.com/2023/09/13/is-rent-control...

We
understand that in the coming weeks Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball intends to introduce a housing package which will include the following:

  • Rent control at a 6% cap
  • Expanding a right to purchase of existing properties to nonprofits
  • Expanding a payment in lieu of taxes agreement for privately held properties
  • Rental security deposit and rental assistance for Howard Community College and school system students
  • Funding improvements for units for ADA purposes
  • Allocating $1.4M in grants from the Housing Trust Fund for nonprofits for rental assistance, weatherization and other unit improvements

  • Clearly, rent control (item 1) and delaying private transactions (item 2) are incredibly problematic. We would urge our members with connections to the County Executive to reach out and express their concerns.
