tips or requirements when renting out a room

Hello everyone, I live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house here in Rockford il,  Also has a basement where there is a laundry area, bathroom and a room with closet. I'm thinking about renting the basement room and share the kitchen. my question here is what are some requirements or tips when renting a room

In order to legally use the basement as a bedroom for you or someone else, the basement needs to have egress windows with a ladder to get out. The window has to be big enough to climb out of and there needs to be a ladder to climb up from there or else it will not be legal and you could be liable in case of injury or death.

If the basement has a walkout to the backyard on the same level that can work, but most will rise and fall by the above. A lot of people rent rooms like that, but illegally.
