SFR House Hack Insurance

Wife and I are purchasing a single family home (primary residence) with an ADU in Florida. We'll be insuring the home with Citizens through Farmers since we have other policies with them. How can we protect ourselves from liability when we rent out the ADU? Should we consult with Farmers or would we need a landlord insurance policy? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You likely need two separate insurance policies. For our house hack with ADU, we have one policy that is traditional homeowners, and then we have a separate landlords policy for the ADU.

Then as Dan mentioned, get the umbrella policy. It's around $400 a year for an extra $1,000,000 of liability coverage. It's a no brainer.
