Rent vs Own Data For Cities - Advice Needed

Orhi Tahi
Posted

Hi All,

I am planning to invest in a house where rent vs own ratio as below:

Rent 16% & Own 84%

Is this a bad thing that there is only 16% of the people renting or is this a good thing as there is less people who rent so quality of tenant will be high ?

How can I read this data ?

Have you invested in real estate before? What markets have you found with these ratios?

I'm curious because REI is an very old game and I've never heard of anyone using this metric.

I can tell you that EVERY market will have excellent tenants and terrible tenants. Professional management and screening will have the largest impact on how your investment performs month to month from a cash flow perspective.
