Leasing Agent For Multi Family Owner Occupied Property

Hello All,

I am planning on buying a multifamily property and living in it for 1-2 years before it becomes solely a rental property.

I am fine with self managing.

I would however like to have somebody prepare the lease documents, find/screen the tenants and work with me to make sure that I set up the whole tenant/landlord situation/relationship correctly/well.

The kind of arrangement I am looking for:

-I would like to have some input into the content of the lease.

-Review all of the information gathered by the leasing agent (background checks, rental history/references, credit status etc.) before a decision is made as to who becomes my tenant.

-Work together to set up rental deposits accounts.

-Make sure that I am following the law in terms of terms and information extended to the tenant.

My Questions:

-Is the above relationship typical with an owner and leasing agent?

-How does one go about choosing/vetting a potential leasing agent?

-Where would one go looking for a leasing agent?

-Is a leasing agent the right professional to seek for the above role?

Note:

I kindly ask that nobody use this post as an opportunity to solicit.

I am just trying to educate myself :-)

Thanking you all in advance for any help/advice that you can provide.

P. Quaid.
