Ham Radio projects for Landlords
I am a big-time user of the raspberry pi single board computer and I've been thinking of connecting my hobby with my rental property. What I'm looking to do is detect water in common areas such as under the hot water tank, sinks, and such locations. Then transmit(Arduino with a Radio Module such as nRF24l01) the detection(status) to the raspberry pi and then broadcast the status over HAM or CB (no license required) to my house that would then receive the information using an SDR Receiver using another raspberry pi that has the internet. Since my home Raspberry Pi has the internet, I could send myself texts or whatever. I was just wondering before I dive deep into making this project if there isn't already something out there.

Sounds like a fun project! My dad is a ham and I started looking into SDR as a potential project to work with him on. SDR, looks like a really interesting field. His pet projects though are more to do with EME. But as a fellow investor, landlord and techie, I"m curious to see what you come up with.
