DC Section 8 Program

Jeremy D.
Posted

Hi all,

Newbie investor in the DC area and looking into the DC section 8 housing voucher.  I was looking to connect with some people that have done this before and have some wisdom to share.  Of course, I've done a bit of research myself by looking at Dr. Joe's stuff but want to hear from others and their experiences.

Thank you!

@Russell Brazil no particular questions specifically, just looking to hear about ppl's experiences and how they went about doing it.  I dont know too much about it but the numbers look good at higher bedrooms.  so one thing would be, is it worth it to try to get to the 3-5 range.  If I could create a bedroom out of a living room, how has that worked out?  Or what about making bedrooms smaller to get more rooms out of it, etc.  Would love to connect with someone and learn about their trials and tribulations.

More bedrooms is certainly the goal, especially in the tier 1 neighborhoods with the highest rent. DCHA publishes the rents for up to 5 BRs, but there is an unpublished 6 br rent scale too.

keep in mind DC requirements for bedrooms. 70 sq feet, 7 foot ceiling height, egress window, and either closet or room for dresser.
