Residential Assisted Living Academy--Anyone have experiences?
I've heard Gene Guarino from Residential Assisted Living Academy on the Joe Fairless podcast as well as J Masseys Cash Flow Diary and Ken Corsinis Deal Farm. I'm really excited about the opportunity it presents. Has anyone completed the courses he offers, or better yet, does anyone own or know someone who owns a Residential Assisted Living Facility?
Thank you!
Anthony
It's been a while since anyone commented on this thread. I see that Gene offers his training pretty often in Phoenix and has an online option as well. So, did anyine take the plunge and try either course? If so, do you think it has value to match the price?
Has anyone here successfully or unsuccessfully started, bought, operated, or owned a residental ALF after taking Gene's training?
I googled “Gene Guarino reviews” and I found this insight from someone in the industry to be very helpful.

This is not in reference to Gene Guarino, but to the inherent and important risks of pursuing this business model.

@Colin Vincent see article that Steve wrote after meeting Gene https://www.seniorlivingforesi...
Well, I'm looking to take the plunge on these classes. I read both articles by Steve and I like he is willing to make revisions on his point of view BUT it ended with "I am delighted to announce that Gene and The Residential Assisted Living Academy is joining the Senior Housing Forum Tribe as a sponsoring partner." Which always makes interesting bedfellows
@Brandon Allison did you take the class?
I find it hard to believe there aren't more reviews, positive or negative, about the 3 day academy... Hardly anyone has anything to say about the academy. I am looking to go to the July 30th class. Dont want to be the first sucker.
Hey @Chase Boutte: did you take the course?
@Brandon Allison did you take the class?
I have been operating larger facilities 60 units plus )for 40 years. It can be a good business but The economics have changed greatly over the years. Unless you're willing to do 90% of the work Yourself I doubt if these make money ....at least probably not the kind implied ... particularly in today's economic environment . If anyone tells you you can accept medicaid and make money in a place like this get a second opinion.
in my opinion, These are not particularly scalable either so making it up in volume generally doesn't work either.

Quote from @Kiersten Vance:
Hi Anthony,
I am in the process of opening a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly in California. I would recommend taking a course for administrators in your state first. This gives you a great overview of the regulations and requirements by the state to run a compliant and successful RCFE. I don't know how much Gene charges but I would take one of those classes first and get licensed and then see if you are still interested in running the business. It is definitely not an easy, sit back and relax, type of income. It is much more involved for the owner operator and you have to enjoy caring for the elderly. If you like it, then maybe think about taking his course.
Good luck!
I am in Ca and interested in the Rcfe space. It seems like there is a lot of red tape, but could be worth it. Did you end up going through with it? If so I would love to chat.
